Other Resources and Acknowledgements

In the Brahee line we have many people to thank for their contributions.

Our first contact was with Wilma (Williams) Hall in 2000.  Besides letting us copy the August Brahee letters she introduced us to John Williams and Randy Honebrink, both from the Williams family.

Another time when Alice went to West Union to gather information, Vernon Heimark (from the Williams family) loaned her a diary his mother Viola (Williams) Heimark) had kept from 1920 through April of 1922.  Viola recorded the daily events when her grandfather August Brahee became sick and died.

In 2005 we (Alice and Laura) went to Sweden for visits with family from both lines.  We stayed with Viktoria Unosson and spent most days with Viktoria and her family.  Her parents, Lisbeth and Uno, took us on excursions and showed us so many things we would never have found on our own.  Seeing the homes of our ancestors was a highlight. We also experienced their fika during these outings!  We also spent a fantastic day with Ingegerd (Gustafsson) Hojer and her sons Håkan and Torbjörn. They later translated letters we have in the August Brahee story in this website.  Torbjörn also spent time with us in Stockholm and made our visit there incredibly special.

In 2015 Deanna (Alice’s daughter) and I visited Sweden.   Again the time with Viktoria and her family was beyond special.  Also, during that visit, we met Anna (Gustafsson) Riby (translator of more letters in August Brahee story) as well as Torbjörn and his family. Again, this was a most memorable trip with more information gathered about our Swedish roots but mostly a chance to get to know some of our Swedish family.

As recently as Sept of 2020 we connected with Thomas Johansson of Sweden, a fellow great, great grandchild of Anders Petter Svenson.  Thomas has shared photos and filled in many blanks. He even has the original album of Johan Pettersson, brother to August Brahee.

In the Stomberg line we also have many people to thank for their contributions.

A couple of the first family members who shared their troves of family information with us were Marilyn Arlene (Peterson) Braun and Joan (Koehnen) Felt.  Marilyn also put us in touch with Viktoria Unosson from Sweden.  Viktoria shared her Swedish genealogy research which we merged with ours. She could even go right to the parish records and find answers to our questions.

Another time while Alice was in Minnesota gathering information, Lisa Emkovik (Unger) loaned her a scrapbook made by Ada and Alvin Stomberg for Alvin’s parents. It was given to A P and Charlotta in 1937 using Christmas cards and 60th Anniversary cards they had received.

Several years ago, Alice wrote to Randy that we had a unique situation in our family. There was someone in five of Anders and Ingeborg’s (Anders Persson 1807-1903 and Ingeborg (Ephraimsdotter) Persson 1814-1893) descendant lines who were doing genealogy.

From Lars (Lasse) Anderson line we have Lisa Emkovik (Unger) and the two of us.  We also claim Marilyn Arlene (Peterson) Braun as she has family in Lars line as well as Benjamin’s line.

From Johanna (Andersdotter) Johansson line we have Viktoria Unosson from Sweden as well as Eileen (Petterson) Gersic of South Dakota.

From Samuel Anderson line we have Randy Honebrink as well as John Williams.

From Benjamin Anderson line we have Marilyn Arlene (Peterson) Braun.

From Andrew Peter Anderson Felt line we have Joan (Koehnen) Felt.

We do not have anyone from Britta Stina (Anderson) Bellquist or Maja-Stina (Anderson) Andreasson lines.

From Viktoria’s presentation at family reunion in Minnesota in 2010.

“Before we ask you to stand and be counted, let me tell you about the two daughters who immigrated. Britta Stina married and had a daughter Hanna.  When Britta Stina was about 31 years of age she died and this daughter Hanna was adopted by her sister Maja-Stina and her husband.  We have this picture of Maja-Stina but none of Britta Stina.  Neither of these sisters had descendants after Hanna passed away.”
